Dcn. Darryl Dixon was ordained to the Permanent Diaconate on August 15, 2020, at St. Mary’s Cathedral by Bishop Zurek. He is currently assigned to St. Thomas the Apostle Parish where he assists Pastor Rev. John Valdez.
Dcn. Darryl assists with the formation of Adults in the RCIA program and leads the parent/sponsor training classes for the Sacrament of Baptism. He is a certified trainer for the Virtus Safe Environment training at St. Thomas and at the Diocesan level in addition to other liturgical functions. He is also active in the Kolbe prison ministry and the Alpha Christian ministry in the prison system since 2016.
He was born in Wichita, Kansas and lived a brief time in Louisville, Kentucky before he transferred with his employment to San Antonio, Austin and San Marcos, Texas where he met his wife, Nina. He currently works at Valero Energy as the Supervisor of Office Services at the payment processing center in Amarillo, Texas.
Dcn. Darryl and his wife Nina were married in September of 1987 in San Antonio, Texas and have been blessed with two children, Matthew Dixon (wife Shelby), Serina Moreno (husband Martin) and seven grandchildren: Andrew, Ava, Emilio, Ignacio, Alex, Diego, and Olivia. They have been members of St. Thomas the Apostle since 1992.
Dcn. Darryl and Nina participate in two ministries together, the marriage preparation program and the annulment support ministry for St. Thomas the Apostle parish.
Dcn. Darryl’s favorite scripture is from the Gospel of Matthew 4:10 “come, follow me and I will make you fishers of men.” His favorite saint is St. Paul, because of the strength and determination given to him by God to go forth and spread the Gospel message and bring people to the love of Jesus Christ.
